For over 30 years, providing plant-powered skincare solutions guided by the principles of Aromatherapy has been part of Natio’s heritage. Our dedication to nurturing and caring for your skin with cruelty-free ingredients derived from nature, extends to protecting our environment and the unique eco-system we call home here in Australia for years to come.
We believe that our beautiful planet deserves the same love and protection we give our skin, which is why we’ve always been committed to treading lightly on the planet. From our sourcing of raw materials, packaging and ingredients required to make our products, sustainability and reducing our environmental impact has played a key role across all aspects of our operations.
We’ve always been passionate about creating beautiful cosmetics that not only make you feel good, but that reflect our commitment to the environment. That’s why we’ve crafted our SHINE FROM WITHIN, mineral eyeshadow palettes from recycled and recyclable packaging.
If you’re close to hitting pan on your favourite palettes from the collection, there’s no need to worry as we’re here to make recycling a breeze! We’ve created a step-by-step guide for easy and responsible recycling:
How to recycle your palettes
STEP 1
Begin by carefully scoring the edges of your eyeshadow palette with a blunt knife. This will help to loosen the components and make it easier to disassemble.
STEP 2
Pry apart the outer casing from the inner palette. Once separated, remove the elastic band that holds the palette closed.
TIP: reduce waste by upcycling the elastic band into a hair tie.
STEP 3
Using the same blunt knife, carefully score along the cardboard layers of the inner palette. This will allow you to separate the cardboard layers with greater ease.
STEP 4
With your blunt knife, carefully lift and remove the eyeshadow pans from the cardboard casing. Clean any residual eyeshadow powder by rinsing the pans in warm water. Ensure that all is removed to ensure effective recycling.
STEP 5
Once the components are all disassembled and cleaned, responsibly dispose of them into your curbside recycling. The metal eyeshadow pans and cardboard can be placed into your curbside recycling.
Well done! Your eyeshadow palettes can now successfully go on to live another life.
We hope you’ll join us in treading lightly on the planet to minimise our environmental impact, together.
Let’s protect this beautiful land we call home for many years to come. Do you have other Natio empties ready for a second life? Base cosmetics have come a long way in the past decade. Gone are the days of orange, caked foundation - I shudder to look at my high school photos - with formulations now offered in every finish and coverage option imaginable. While it’s a relief knowing every photo taken of me won’t result in Oompa Loompa levels of orange, it can be overwhelming finding the right base when there is a plethora of options to choose from. Fortunately, Natio has recently reformulated a range of our customer favourite base and foundation products. Here I break down which ones you can use to get your exact desired look.
Dewy and dreamy
If you’re after a base that gives you that “barely there” wash of colour, Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20 offers a convenient skincare and tint hybrid for glowy, protected and hydrated skin. There’s a reason this tint constantly receives 5-star reviews on the Natio website – it’s the perfectly versatile, buildable light to medium coverage formula for every day. To apply for a makeup-free look, simply pat a small amount onto the forehead, nose, chin and cheeks, blending gently all over the face with fingertips.
For a higher level of sun protection, the new Mineral Tinted Moisturiser SPF 50+ also offers a glowy sheen without appearing greasy. Boasting very high broad spectrum protection with Zinc Oxide physical filters, this light blendable tint leaves a natural luminous finish. If you’re a fan of our Clear Zinc Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 and have been looking for a base makeup with the same effect, this one is for you.
Velvety smooth
Shine doesn’t appeal to everyone – and for those after a matte finish, we have you covered (literally)! For a creamy velvet finish with added sun protection, our customer-favourite Cream to Powder Foundation is the perfect buildable shine-free base with newly added SPF 20 protection. Now available in a Fair shade (a godsend for my pasty self) this neat compact is also perfect for touching up, or blotting out shine, while on the go.
If you are looking for a velvet finish in a cream format, the much-loved Flawless Foundation SPF 15 is ideal for veiling skin in a medium coverage base. Like the name suggests, this formula works to flawlessly conceal blemishes and even out pigmentation. If you have more mature skin, this might be the preferred medium coverage formula for you, it blends beautifully into skin without sinking into lines.
Light and luminous
Are you after the “no makeup” makeup look? The Pure Mineral Skin Perfecting BB Cream SPF 15 evens skin tone and brightens for healthy looking, glowing skin in a medium coverage format. This balmy texture blends to match complexion, allowing your inner beauty shine through. BB – blemish balm – provides the lightest level of coverage for those days where you want just a hint of colour for a natural look with colour corrective properties.
Going the extra mile
Sometimes one formula doesn’t do it all, but there are ways to make one base foundation go the distance. Primer can significantly alter the appearance of makeup, so if you’re wanting to add some glow to a matte formula, or blur pores beneath a light coverage foundation, one quick step can add some variety to your makeup look.
The Bronze Glow Perfecting Primer works in one step to add a touch of radiance during the otherwise washed-out winter months. Applied on its own or before a light coverage foundation or tint, this pigmented formula adds a touch of warmth for a year-round (and sun safe!) bronzed glow.
Back by popular demand, the Luminous Pearl Perfecting Primer provides a pearlescent, subtle glow without tint. Ultra fine mineral pearl pigments radiate light for that “glass skin” appearance. Better still, this balmy cream is infused with skincare benefits like antioxidant-rich Pomegranate, Vitamin E and Jojoba. This formula can also be worn alone as the final step in skincare, or underneath any of your favourite Natio base products.
Either way, seal your look with Makeup Setting Spray to add longevity to your makeup, and you have all bases covered!

See: Ceramides
Few things in this world are certain, but one thing you can rely on is winter’s ability to disturb even the most balanced, well-maintained skin. Maybe not immediately, but certainly over time. Because when the temp drops, so does the moisture content in our skin. Add in biting winds, scalding showers and 24/7 heating and soon enough, it’s a dry skin disaster. Cue: winter weary skin that looks and feels dull, ashy and tight - at best.
Fortunately, simple skincare formula swaps can help rescue your moisture barrier during the cold snap season (and beyond) and keep skin adequality nourished, comfortable and – even! - radiant. How? Ceramides.
We’ve touched on this hero ingredient before, but now – enduring the drying throes of Winter – Ceramides deserve a closer look.
Ceramides 101
So, what are Ceramides and what do they do? Well, they're a type of lipid (aka fat molecule) that naturally occurs in our skin cells. Essentially, they work to help reinforce the skin’s barrier function, which is vital for keeping skin cells healthy, protecting against drying external aggressors and stopping bacteria and infections from entering the body. If you think of your skin cells as bricks, then ceramides are the mortar that bind them. They’re integral.
And while harsh winter weather – as well as ageing, sun damage and certain skin conditions - can disrupt the natural ceramide levels in our skin (boo!), incorporating ceramides into your skincare regime can replenish levels topically (hooray!). In fact, with continued regular use of topical Ceramides in your skincare, you can expect to see and feel boosted moisture levels in as little as a week. So let’s get started.
Ceramides Skincare Swaps
Easy to incorporate at any – or every! - step, Ceramides can be found in a variety of skincare products, most typically moisture-focussed serums , creams/lotions and overnight balms. Though you’ll spot different types of ceramides on ingredient lists (such as Ceramide AP, NP, NG, NS or EOP, to name a few), ultimately, they all function very similarly to strengthen and support skin’s barrier. When it comes to skincare, all Ceramides are good Ceramides. And you can find them in the following Natio skincare products:
- Treatments Plant Peptide Line & Wrinkle Serum
- Treatments Hyaluronate Skin Hydration Serum
- Ageless Plumping Renewal Serum
- Ageless Radiance Day Lotion
- Aromatherapy Extra Firming Night Time Moisture Balm
- Aromatherapy Multi Action Neck and Decolletage Sculpting Cream
- Treatments Skin Renewal Ceramide Line & Wrinkle Cream
- Treatments Plant Peptide Firm & Smooth Eye Cream

What’s the 411 on the ‘glass skin’ trend? This term is being used to describe skin that isn't just free from blemishes, but is radiant and shines from within, so much so that your skin looks like porcelain. Originating from the Korean phrase ‘yuri pibu’, which translates to ‘glass skin’, the concept of glass skin is attainable through living a healthy lifestyle, hydrating and nourishing the skin with skin loving ingredients.
This trend has rolled over into the beauty community with the rise of ‘glass skin makeup’. Which is essentially a similar concept to glass skin but without the rigorous 12-step-skincare-routine. Natio Colour Cosmetics has an array of products to help build the perfect skin loving, luminous base to achieve your best ‘glass skin makeup’. Follow our step-by-step guide below.
Luminous, Pore Less & Porcelain Skin
Porcelain skin starts with a flawless and hydrated base – using our Soft Focus Pore Perfecting Primer in the t-zone of your face will help minimise pores, imperfections and help reduce excess shine throughout the day. Combining this with our Luminous Pearl Perfecting Primer on your cheeks will help hydrate skin for a radiant appearance.
These primers are infused with ingredients your skin will love - Jojoba, Pomegranate, Vitamin E, B5, C and Rosehip. Use these two primers alone for a more natural look, or move on to our Mineral Tinted Moisturiser for more coverage.
Your Skin but Better – Mineral Tinted Moisturiser
For additional lightweight coverage to enhance your complexion, introduce our new Mineral Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 50+ into your glass skin makeup routine. This radiant Mineral Tinted Moisturiser has very high protection SPF50+ and contains mineral zinc physical sunscreen filters to help protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays. Helping to protect your skin from pre-mature ageing.
As we applied the luminous primer to the cheeks of the face, this will help transform the the Mineral Tinted Moisturiser to be dewier in these areas for that glass-like-appearance, whilst keeping your t-zone under control. For further coverage under the eyes or to conceal blemishes, lightly pat in our Under Eye Cushion Concealer once the Mineral Tinted Moisturiser has been applied. Lightly set the T-zone with our Pressed Powder to reduce shine throughout the day.
TIP: Don’t overdo it on the pressed powder to ensure the base of the makeup is kept light and dewy for that glass-like appearance.
Add some Colour with our Cream Sticks
To finish off your radiant look, our range of cream sticks melt into the face and hydrate with rich moisturising cocoa butter and carnauba wax for a silky and smooth application. Using a cream stick over a powdered blush, bronzer or highlighter ensures the dewiness of the skin is obtained. Add the Cream Stick Bronzer to the hollows of your cheeks, around the temples and on the jawline to add depth to the face.
Our Cream Stick Blusher can be applied to the apples of the cheeks and lightly across the nose for a sun-kissed look. To bring forth features on the face like the cheekbones, eyebrow bone, cupid’s bow and the tip of the nose, apply our Cream Stick Highlighter to these areas.
Finish off with your go-to brow routine, some mascara and your favourite lippy and voila -you now have easily obtained glass-skin and are ready to tackle any new and emerging beauty trends that come your way!

Is there a beauty trend more enduring than the bold red lip? Styles may come and go, but nothing has stood the test of time like a satin rouge, spanning centuries of cultural touchpoints, from signifying wealth and power to affirming political stances. In celebration of International Lipstick Day, let’s explore the journey of this beauty essential, from ancient rituals long before Natio started selling Crimson Lip Colour in Australia.
There is debate about lipstick's inventor, as it has existed in various forms across different cultures for millennia. Early forms of lip colour have been discovered in various ancient cultures.
One of the earliest known examples dates back to 2600-2500 BC in Ancient Mesopotamia. Queen Shub-ad (or Pu-Abi) of Ur adorned her lips with a crimson hue created from crushed red rocks and white lead, believed to symbolise fertility.
Around 2000 BC lipsticks travelled to Ancient Egypt, where the colour evolved as a status symbol. Lip colour was made from red ochre mixed with resin or gum to increase its longevity. Queen Cleopatra had custom lipstick colours made for her using Carmine, a deeply pigmented shade from crushed carmine bugs. The pursuit of beauty often came at a dangerous cost, leading to severe health consequences for those who wore these early lipsticks. Ingredients included a dye taken from seaweed containing two toxic metals. When combined, these materials created a rich purple shade, which would later be called “the Kiss of Death.” Many people who wore the shade died due to the levels of the poisonous substances ingested.
Roman women also embraced lip colour as a sign of affluence, but their formulations were equally perilous, containing substances like iron ore and fucus plants.
A Controversial Cosmetic
Lipstick hasn’t always been a sign of wealth or power. In Middle Ages England, for instance, women who wore makeup were believed to be associated with the devil. Prior to this, lip colour in Ancient Greece was frowned upon, associated with courtesans.
In 1700s England, Parliament passed laws that prohibited women from altering their appearance, which could be used as grounds for being tried for witchcraft.
Lipstick has continued to be used as a sign of rebellion, long beyond the burning of witches at the stake. In 1912, red lipstick became a signifier of women’s emancipation, with Suffragettes opting to don a bold lip when marching in protest for the right to vote.
Innovations in packaging also propelled lipstick's popularity. In 1915 the levy tube was invented by Maurice Levy, offering a small metal cannister which uses a lever to lower and raise the bullet of lipstick formula. The first swivel tube was patented in Nashville Tennessee by James Bruce Mason Jr. In the 20s, French chemist Paul Baudercroux created the “Rouge Baiser” lip colour, which was marketed as a “kiss proof” cosmetic. The product was later banned as consumers struggled to remove the colour without causing serious damage to the skin. In 1950, American Chemist Hazel Bishop patented the first successful non-smearing lipstick. The Hecht Company took it to market with the slogan “stays on you, not him.”

Clear skin comes down to a few things: genetics, skin hygiene and skincare formula choices. While you can’t change your genes, you can control the other two factors – and 2 out of 3 isn’t bad! See, clear skin can be achievable when you take the right steps, with the right products. Blemishes, clogged pores or blackheads can be managed – even banished - by seeking out some specific ingredients within your face wash, toner and other skincare steps. Learning how to target and treat your skin’s issues by focusing on certain ingredients can make the world of difference to your confidence and help promote clearer skin.
Let’s start!
Face Wash
Cleanliness is key, but make it gentle. And smart. Starting and ending the day with clean, balanced skin is the best first step to your skin becoming clearer. Formula matters, and a good cleanser will be both effective and mindful of stripping vital moisture, with a blend of ingredients that care and actively work to improve your skin’s condition. Case in point: our Men Plus Fresh Face Foam Cleanser. Containing antioxidant rich Vitamin C and moisturising Hyaluronate, the proactive free radical-fighting formula helps fade visible signs of ageing, hyperpigmentation and can promote a brighter complexion while hydrating and maintaining skin’s moisture balance, without clogging pores.
Tip: Cleansing and showering right after a workout can remove impurities, sweat, dirt, oil and bacteria built up from a workout. Without doing this, blemish-causing bacteria can be left on the skin and can cause break outs on the face, back and chest.
BHA Exfoliants
Exfoliation is that extra step you need to take to keep congestion at bay and skin clear. Takes 30 seconds, makes a big difference. A chemical exfoliant is great, sidestepping the rough buffing that can happen with traditional physical scrubs (those with grit to them). Milder than their physical cousins, chemical exfoliators like Natio men plus our Light and Tone BHA Exfoliant work to dissolve away rather than slough away expired skin. The hero ingredient? Salicylic acid, which stimulates cell turnover and helps reduce blackheads, whiteheads and the incidence of future breakouts. So easy, so good.
Tip: When using a chemical exfoliant, we recommend that it is used during your night time skin routine to give it maximum time on your skin before washing again.
Facial Toners
Forgotten heroes. Face toners are often overlooked within a skincare routine, (wrongly!) perceived as having no legitimate “purpose”. However, good toners – those with purpose-selected botanical and active ingredients - do substantial heavy lifting for skin, helping to remove surface impurities and balance natural moisture levels, leaving the complexion clean, soothed and primed to help better absorb the products that follow. Take our Natio men plus’ Detoxifying Toning Tonic, This Type A heavy-hitter is no slouch in the skincare game, containing both blemish fighting Witch Hazel and antioxidant healer, Vitamin C. A power duo, Witch Hazel aids helps shrink pores, prevents acne-causing bacteria from inhabiting your skin and reduces inflammation while Vitamin C helps accelerate wound healing (ie. blemishes that have been picked at tsk tsk) and decrease hyperpigmentation caused by post-blemish marks.
Facial Moisturisers
A comfortable, hydrating, non-greasy moisturiser is a must, day and night. And it’s even better if it contains high performance ingredients, like Natio men plus Age Defence Face Moisturiser. First up - antioxidants, which fight skin ageing free radicals and blemishes caused by impurities. Pow! Second- Retinyl Palmitate, a stable and gentle form of retinol known for its effectiveness in reducing signs of aging and suitability for those with blemish-prone skin. Third– Niacinamide, which soothes, helps hydrate and minimises irritation. Yep, it’s a triple threat.
Sun Protection
A vital step for clear, healthy skin is incorporating SPF into your daily routine*. It’s a must! A high performance SPF has UVA/UVB protection and a minimum SPF 50+ which will not only protect your skin from harmful UV rays but will also help prevent damage and accelerated ageing. Without consistent use of an SPF, hyperpigmentation - aka dark spots or red spots left on your skin from acne – is a real threat. Erm, no thanks. Lightweight and non-greasy, the two-in-one Natio men plus Age Protect Face Lotion SPF 50+ is an easy multitasker that works perfectly on all skin types. Make it your last step in any morning routine and keep it on hand for reapplication throughout the day, and you’re golden.
Eye Cream
They say, ‘the eyes are the windows to the soul’, and having tired, puffy eyes can be a key indicator to whether you’ve had a good night’s kip. The skin around your eyes is much thinner than the rest of your face, so it holds less moisture and is more susceptible to premature signs of ageing. Adding a quality eye cream to your night routine is quick and easy, and will help liberate eyes from puffiness, fine lines and dark circles. Combining hyper-hydrating, skin plumping Sodium Hyaluronate and brightening Vitamin C, Natio men plus Energising Eye Cream helps to awaken tired eyes for a fresher, more youthful look.
So, you now know what ingredients to look for in each step of your skincare routine. Natio’s men plus collection has been made for men who want to elevate their current skin routine to help promote clearer skin. The ingredients you want, they’re there. You can shop the collection here.
*Always read the label and follow the directions for use. Sunscreens are only one component of sun protection. Prolonged high-risk sun exposure should be avoided. Frequent use and re-application in accordance with directions is required for effective sun protection.

Men vs Women: Understanding the skin differences
While men and women share the same fundamental skin biology, there are some key differences when it comes to their skin's needs:- Oil Production: Testosterone amps up oil production in men's skin, making it oilier and more prone to breakouts.
- Shaving Stress: Daily shaving disrupts the skin's natural barrier, leading to irritation and dryness.
- Sun Safety Gap: Unfortunately, according to the Cancer Council, men are less likely to wear sunscreen, putting them at a higher risk of skin cancer (source: cancer council).
Can’t I just borrow my partners products?
Sharing is caring, but not when it comes to skincare! Your partner’s products might be perfect for their skin type, but they might not be right for yours. Opting for a skincare routine specifically formulated for men’s needs ensures you are addressing your skin’s unique concerns.Building a strong skincare routine: Start simple, build smart
The best skincare routine is one you can stick to. Here is a beginner friendly approach:- Cleanse: Wash away dirt, oil, and impurities with a foaming cleanser designed for men's skin.
- Moisturise: Hydration is key! Choose a moisturiser that's lightweight and non greasy.
- SPF (morning only): This is non-negotiable! Daily sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UV rays that can cause premature aging and skin cancer (Sunscreens are only one component of sun protection. Prolonged high-risk sun exposure should be avoided. Frequent use and re-application in accordance with directions is required for effective sun protection).
Level up your routine
Once you have the basics down, consider adding these:- Exfoliator: Buffs away dead skin cells promoting a brighter and more toned complexion
- Toner: Detox skin from environmental aggressors like pollution while strengthen the skins moisture barrier
- Eye Cream: Targets dark circles and puffiness for an energised look.
- Beard Oil: Soothes and conditions your beard while restoring your skin's barrier after shaving. The ideal product if your beard gets itchy!
Nature Nurtures Best

It's packed with vitamins, antioxidants and phytoactives that promote skin elasticity and even skin tone. But it doesn’t end there, read more about the active ingredients in Natio men plus here. There’s nothing worse than shopping for your new holy grail lippy, only to find when you return home that your newly purchased lip stick is sadly not the shade for you.
Still unsure of where it all went oh-so-wrong, you persevere on your lipstick pursuit hoping that eventually, by some sheer luck you’ll strike gold and finally find your shade.
But alas, the lipstick hunt overcomes you, and you end up going back to the one, tried and true lipstick you discovered back when you were 20. But there’s no fun in that – after all, you should be able to confidently build a collection of lip colours that can reflect your every mood, or suit that makeup look you saw on Pinterest.
Never fear, knowing how to find the perfect lip colour doesn’t have to be a disappointing feat, nor a game of chance. While knowing how to find the perfect lip shade may not technically be considered an “art form”, there is in fact some art theory involved based on identifying your undertone.
Let us guide you through how to find your most complimentary lipstick shade with our trusty old friend, the colour wheel! But first, what exactly is an undertone anyway?
What is your skin undertone?
While you may be on the fair or darker side, your skin undertone isn’t the same as your actual skin tone.
Your undertone is the natural hue that peeks through the surface of your skin, giving pigment to your beautiful skin tone. For many, we assume that just because we’re fair skinned we must therefore have a cool undertone... right? We're here to debunk this and teach you that it is possible to be fair skinned and not necessarily have a cool undertone like you may suspect.
There are 3 undertones which can be identified by assessing the colour of your veins and in conjunction with our colour wheel. These are:
- Cool undertone = blue or purple veins
- Warm undertone = green or olive veins
- Neutral undertone = blue or green veins
When assessing your undertone, it’s also helpful to think about whether you typically wear gold or silver jewellery. For those who love a splash of silver, this typically flatters cooler undertones, whereas gold is known to be complimentary to warmer undertones. For the lucky ones that can wear both, guess what? You’re most likely a neutral undertone!
Still not convinced you’ve found your undertone based on your vein colour? Don’t you worry, we wouldn’t leave it at just that. Simply take the underside of your forearm and compare the closest match to your skin tone on the colour wheel below. This will assist you with more accurately identifying your undertone.
While this method isn’t foolproof, you’ll have a much better understanding to help you shop your most flattering shade to complete your makeup looks.
How to find your lip shade
Now that you’ve completed your colour wheel analysis, let’s de-code this to help you shop your most flattering lip shade hues.
- Cool undertone (blue/purple veins) = Blue or purple lipstick hues
- Warm (green/olive veins) = Red or orange lipstick hues
- Neutral (blue/green veins) = Any lipstick hue
Shop your most flattering lip shades
After all this analysis, you’re now ready to shop your perfect lipstick!
Find our carefully curated collections of lipstick shades perfectly suited to each undertone below:
While it’s helpful to know your undertone to provide you with confidence when shopping for a new lipstick, at the end of the day you should always choose the lip stick that will have you feeling your most comfortable, confident self!
After all, there's no point in buying a lipstick you won’t get wear out of!
